Anish Kapoor's exhibition at the The Royal Academy has been a huge success, brightening the lives of all its visitors. This abstarct photo is of the huge sculture in the courtyard, undoubtedly one of the center pieces and most sucessful parts of the exhibition.
Technically I haven't moved to London yet. But in the interests of appetite whetting I thought it best to get started early. On my last visit to London in November 2009 I was lucky enough to experience the joy of visiting the Anish Kapoor exhibition at The Royal Academy.
Although I understand the reasoning behind it, I was gutted to discover that taking photos inside the exhibition was banned. In fairness if it was permitted the (already overflowing) exhibition halls would be overrun by photographers of all descriptions trying to capture all those crazy reflections. The endless smiles. The unique interactions between random strangers sharing in the fantastic euphoria that seems to fill the souls of everyone who enters.
I personally, among many others, spent a good five minutes chatting to a woman in her late 50's as we both smiled and laughed moving forwards and backwards, side to side, twisting and twirling together in front of the brilliantly simple but effective beguiling polished mirror scultures. The age difference, our different walks of life were of no concern as both of us regressed to a child like state of simplistic openess and enjoyment. The complexities and complications of adult life simply evaporated.
Fortunately though, all the photographers were kept happy with a huge sculture of mirror balls outside the main entrance in the courtyard. A bit of a show stopper, free to access and more importantly open for you to take as many photos as your heart desired. Simply brilliant! (to see more photos go to the London gallery)
